ThouShaltNot - "Last Comfort" (2001)

Going slightly backwards, temporally speaking, on my dedicated quest to throw some interesting EBM/Darkwave/Industrial music your way, I mentioned there about how my first real exposure to this type of music was an on-line show called Syncromesh (now long since gone). It was there, rather than at RSA that I heard this beauty.

ThouShaltNot is (or possibly was; they seem to have done nothing since about 2011) a band from the Ohio/Pennsylvania region whose music ranges/ranged across electronic, goth and postpunk styles. Their second album The Holiness Of Now appeared in 2001 and featured the track which DJ Sable aka Brander Roulett played on Syncromesh a short time after; the track which - more than any other - convinced me to check out some more of this type of thing.

Last Comfort contains all the elements which I associate with these styles of music: strong beats, music in minor keys and diminished chords, and lyrics which give out a sort of wistful but defiant melancholy. There are very satisfying string parts in this, too.

Enough yap: enjoy your Last Comfort - "it is the last we will ever get"...
