Well I think it's funny - even after I found out that it's a town in Michigan:
I think it's the presence of the word 'Near' which does it. And, while we're on the subject - why do Americans - who are amongst the most prudish people in the western world when it comes to, say, singers' nipples - quite happily have such names for their towns?
